Distance Learning

What we offer

The WSU Extension Communications and Educational Support group offers you a full range of options for delivering your education, training, or certification programs at a distance.

Planning
In the planning stage, we help you decide which media, or combination of media, would be most suitable for your distance learning needs.  Since we support virtually all media options, you can be sure that the media selection for each part of your distance learning experience is best suited to your audience, your subject matter, and your budget.

Materials, Marketing and Measuring Success
Our Web Resources and Graphic Design staff can help design a Web page for your distance learning program and any printed promotional materials you might need.  Our Publishing and Printing unit can produce any printed materials and distribute them to your target audiences via its mailing operation. And our Computing and Web Resources group can host your Web page on our servers and integrate it into our content management system for customized updating, RSS feeds, etc.  Extension and CAHNRS Marketing and News Services is available to publicize your educational program. Finally, our Web staff can help you design an online evaluation survey to gather feedback from your learners about their experiences with your distance learning offering.

Media Options for Distance Learning

In a FlashAdobe Presenter Training
Our newest capability is Web-based training and education.  We have invested in the Flash-based Adobe Acrobat Connect platform (previously “Macromedia Breeze”), a server-based system that allows the creation and administration of both real-time presentations and recorded training modules.  This includes Adobe Presenter, a desktop software package that allows instructors to add narration and quizzes and attach files to existing PowerPoint presentations.  Adobe Connect Training allows server-based administration of trainings created with Presenter.  This includes monitoring of data such as course participation, quiz results, and automated reminder messages.  We also offer an interactive voice, video and text chat capability via “Adobe Connect Meeting,” which facilitates real-time presentation and collaboration. And finally, “Adobe Connect Events” lets users manage the full life-cycle of training events.

Filming a videoVideo and Multimedia
We offer a variety of media choices that include our award-winning Video & Multimedia unit, which produces both informational and instructional videotapes, interactive CDs and DVDs and live satellite productions. This unit supports a statewide distribution network of satellite receivers in more than 50 locations across Washington State. This unit also produces live videostreaming events, which can be viewed by users at their desktop or laptop computers. (See flyer on Video & Multimedia Unit or go to the Video Unit Web site.)

Internet based video conferencing
The Washington Education Conferencing Network (WECN) provides multi-site videoconferencing capability over the Internet. Formerly operated by WSU Extension, WECN is now a part of WSU's central Integrated Media Services. But their statewide video conferencing services are still available to all CAHNRS and WSU Extension employees and we can advise you on how you can integrate this technology with our live broadcast production capability or with other video conferencing systems in Washington State, the United States or even in foreign countries. For more information about the WECN system, go
